Puthukkudiyiruppu pronounced Puthuk-kudiy-iruppu in Tamil means ‘new settlement’. The land comprises of 65,610 km. It is a village in the Mullaitivu district of Sri Lanka. It is a Agrarian and fishing community. The village was adversely affected during the civil war that lasted thirty years in Sri Lanka.
Communities in Puthukkudiyiruppu do not have access to drinking water due to the destruction caused the wells during the war. A single common well is used by 15 to 20 families. Approximately around 100 people. Limited water resources also leads to disputes among families.
